In this video we show you how to update your Aadhaar card details online using the UIDAI portal in 11 easy steps. You can do it yourself without visiting any agent or Aadhaar center.

First, open your browser and go to the UIDAI website at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. On the home page, look for the My Aadhaar section and click on Update Your Aadhaar or Update Demographics Data.

You will be taken to a login page. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and fill in the security captcha shown on the screen. Then click Send OTP.

A 6-digit OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered with your Aadhaar. Enter that OTP and click Login to access your Aadhaar account.

Once logged in, you will see a list of fields you can update. Select the field you want to change. For example, if you want to change your address, click on the address option.

Fill in the correct information in English and also in your local language. Make sure everything is spelled correctly before moving to the next step.

Next, select the type of document you are uploading as proof. For address change, you can use a Passport, Voter ID, Driving License, Bank Statement, Electricity Bill or any other document from the UIDAI approved list. Upload a clear scanned copy of the document.

Review all the information you have filled in carefully. If everything looks correct, click Proceed to submit your update request.

After submission, you will receive an Update Request Number, also called URN. Keep this number safe. You can use it to track the status of your Aadhaar update on the UIDAI website. Updates usually take 5 to 30 working days.

What Can You Update in Your Aadhaar Card?

UIDAI allows you to correct or update several details in your Aadhaar card through the official portal at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. Address updates can be done multiple times online. Name corrections are allowed a limited number of times. Date of birth can only be corrected once, so double-check before submitting. Gender correction is also available online. Mobile number and biometric updates require a visit to the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra since they need in-person verification. All online document updates are free of charge until 14 June 2026.

11 Steps to Update Aadhaar Card Details Online

  1. Open your browser and go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
  2. Under the My Aadhaar section, click Update Your Aadhaar or Update Demographics Data.
  3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number in the field provided.
  4. Enter the security captcha shown on the screen.
  5. Click Send OTP. A 6-digit OTP is sent to your registered mobile number.
  6. Enter the 6-digit OTP and click Login to access your Aadhaar account.
  7. Select the field you want to update, address, name, date of birth or gender.
  8. Fill in the correct details in English and in your local language.
  9. Select the document type and upload a scanned copy of your valid supporting document.
  10. Review all details carefully and click Proceed to submit your update request.
  11. Note your Update Request Number (URN). Use it to track the status of your update.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Your mobile number must be registered with your Aadhaar to receive the OTP and log in. If your number is not linked, you cannot update details online. Visit your nearest Aadhaar center instead.
  • Date of birth can only be corrected once in a lifetime. Make sure the information you enter exactly matches your birth certificate or passport before submitting.
  • All supporting documents you upload must be from the UIDAI approved list. Uploading an unapproved document will result in rejection of your update request.
  • Save your Update Request Number (URN) after submission. You will need it to track the status of your update and for any future correspondence with UIDAI.
  • If you file for corrections online, you can also check the status by calling the UIDAI helpline at 1947 from your registered mobile number.

Tips for a Smooth Aadhaar Update

  • Scan your document in colour at 200 DPI or higher. Blurry or low-resolution uploads are a common reason for rejection.
  • Fill in your name in exactly the same way it appears on your supporting document. Even a small spelling difference can cause your request to be rejected.
  • Use a desktop or laptop browser for uploads. Mobile browsers sometimes have trouble with the document upload step.
  • After submitting, download or screenshot the acknowledgement page showing your URN before closing the browser.
